Halloween is supposed to be for kids - ALL kids. (Of course, I'm not limiting Halloween to just kids. There are plenty of adults who enjoy being a kid this time of year :) But I am saying that we want to include ALL kids. ALL kids. Let's say it together: ALL kids.
The sad thing is, many believe as a DJ recently shared on a local radio show, that Halloween is "about the candy." He bashed the Teal Pumpkin effort and poked fun at kids with food allergies. And I have to stop talking about it or I will start typing inappropriate words. Halloween is about the KIDS! Why should those who cannot eat some, most, or all of the candy be punished?

I've been passing out sweet treats on Halloween for decades. I've been gluten free for the past 14 years, and promoting awareness and support for 13 1/2 of those years. Have I provided nonfood treats for those who may not be able to enjoy what I happen to be handing out? No! Sadly, I hadn't thought of it.
Thank you FARE for this ingenious idea.
My pumpkin is painted (with 1/4 of a 98cent bottle of acrylic paint from Michael's), my nonfood treats are purchased, and my sign is printed and ready for the front door. Let's do this thing! - Please pass the word - and maybe (just maybe) there will be at least a few teal pumpkins in neighborhoods where kids with food allergies live. Let's support ALL kids.
